Kim Scheppele’s research tracks the debate over the Holy Crown of St. Stephen—the twentieth-century interwar irredentist symbol foreground in Hungary’s new nationalist constitution of 2012—back to its medieval sources and reworks its origin story by exploring the twin ideas of abjection and awe in the construction of constitutional community.
