Fabien Morel uses methods of algebraic topology to study the A1-homotopy type of (A^1-connected) smooth projective k-varieties. For instance, with the cellular chain complex (+ A. Sawant) and its Poincare duality, one may study the signature of A^1-connected smooth projective k-varieties, or the Whitehead torsion of an A^1-equivalence between these.
