Didier Fassin on "Left Populism"
On February 13, 2019, Didier Fassin, James D. Wolfensohn Professor in the School of Social Science, participated in a panel discussion at the Columbia Center for Contemporary Critical Thought on For a Left Populism (Verso, 2018) by Chantal Mouffe, Member (1988–89) and Visitor (1995–96) in the School.
The central question of the panel, moderated by Bernard E. Harcourt, Visting Professor (2016–17) in the School, and also featuring Jan-Werner Mueller, Member (2013) in the School of Historical Studies, was whether a left populism strategy can be crafted that would avoid the pitfalls of prior populist experiences.
