Sharing Files With Dropbox

Dropbox Transfer replacing Filelocker

The Institute for Advanced Study has transitioned from Filelocker to Dropbox Transfer for secure file sharing.  Use this guide or watch our video on using Dropbox Transfer to learn more.

Invitation to IAS Dropbox Team: 

  1. Information on IAS Dropbox Accounts.
  2. To obtain an invitation for Dropbox, please complete the Dropbox Account Request Form
  3. Once the account is created, you will receive a link to Dropbox in your email

The link will take you to the following page:

  1. Click on the "Accept all" button on the lower right-hand side
  2. Then click on "Continue"

     

Logging In:

Login to Dropbox if you want to create, save, and share files.

  1. Use your IAS email for email/username: e.g.  myname@ias.edu
  2. If you have not logged in with DUO yet, you will need to click the button,  "Continue with single sign-in"

How to Use Dropbox to Transfer Files, Folders, and Videos

Using the transfer feature, you can send multiple files and folders at one time.  Look at Dropbox’s explanation and guide on how transfers work.  This webpage will guide you through the Dropbox Transfer process.

NOTE - A Dropbox account is needed to send, but not to receive, a file using Dropbox Transfer.

Initial Dropbox Transfer Site:

Click on the expiration date to set the "Expiration", "Password" and "Download notifications" then click "Done".  Expired files will be removed from Dropbox after 180 days.

Then click "Create transfer"

Select your method for sharing

You will get the following screen when the transfer is complete

Download/Preview Shared Files:

When you are on the receiving end, an email will be sent to you stating that a file is shared with you. Click on the link in the email to preview the file.

Here you can view the file, and if you want to download it you can do so by clicking the download button on the top right of the screen.
