Testing Einstein's Theory of Gravity Using the First Image of a Black Hole
Black holes create the most extreme gravitational fields imaginable, and therefore offer a unique and unprecedented opportunity to test our current understanding of gravity. We've known about the existence of black holes in space for many years but we've only recently been able to use them as a laboratory to test our theories. Medeiros will introduce the audience to the Event Horizon Telescope project as a gravity experiment and discuss a recently published new test of gravity, 500 times more powerful than tests done in the solar system.
