Ursula Goldenbaum will investigate Leibniz's turn to metaphysics, mechanical theory, and mathematics during his time in Mainz (1667-72). It is the claim of her book-length project that this was due to his concern about the dangerous theoretical consequences of mechanical philosophy for Christian dogmatic.
