Patrick Sänger is investigating the jurisdiction within ethnic groups that were organized as a politeuma, a specific form of organization that appears predominately in Hellenistic Egypt. His research is based on a papyrus archive documenting a Jewish politeuma in the nome capital Herakleopolis (Middle Egypt) and is also part of a book dealing with ethnic politeumata in general.
