My project examines the history of the Buddhist book-cult in South Asia, focusing on the cultural and historical significance of the Buddhist manuscripts as three-dimensional sacred objects. By examining the social and religious history woven from the illustrated manuscripts, it also addresses an important historical question of how and why Buddhism disappeared in the land of its origin.
