Emily Kadens studies the legal history of premodern Europe with a focus on commercial law and practice. During her term at the IAS, she will be working on a book on the history of commercial cheating in early modern England. The project examines the varieties of fraud, the abuse of trust and reputation, and the limits of legislation.
