Alexander O’Hara is concluding a project on the inter-relationship between monastic groups and elite patrons in the seventh century with a particular focus on the Irish ascetic exile and monastic founder Columbanus (d. 615), and the monastic network he and his Frankish disciples established in Merovingian Gaul and Lombard Italy.
