William Chen studies moduli spaces of elliptic curves with non-abelian level structures, which are often quotients of the upper half-plane by noncongruence subgroups of SL(2,Z). At IAS, he plans to further develop this theory and its applications to noncongruence modular forms, Teichmuller dynamics, and the inverse Galois problem.
