Nancy Scheper-Hughes is writing a book, “The Ghosts of Montes de Oca,” which is based on archival and ethnographic research between 2000–11 and analyzes the cultural-ideological, political, and psych­iatric forces that created a death-camp-like environment within Argentina’s national asylum for the profoundly mentally deficient during the Dirty War, and why it continued through 2007.
