Michał Gawlikowski is an archaeologist who directed for many years excavations in Palmyra and Hawarte in Syria, as well as in Jordan, Iraq, and currently in Saudi Arabia. His main discoveries were the temple of Allat in Palmyra and the mithraeum at Hawarte. He is interested in the Near East in the Roman period, and he has made contributions in the field of ancient religion, trade routes, and epigraphy.
