IAS Film Series: Khoon Diy Baarav (Blood Leaves its Trail)
Filmed over a period of nine years, Iffat Fatima’s Khoon Diy Baarav, foregrounds Kashmir through intimate accounts of families of those subjected to enforced disappearances. According to International Commission of Jurists, 8,000 disappearances were recorded in Kashmir between 1989 and 2012. The families’ struggle for truth and justice is marked by confronting militarism and legal impunity, violent erasures and enforced forgetting. Khoon Diy Barav is about resilience as much as it is about repression. It is about remembering as much as it is about imposed amnesia. And finally it is about hope, despite everything. Iffat Fatima is an independent documentary filmmaker and researcher from Kashmir.
