I am writing a book about a Sanskrit author of the seventeenth century called NÄ«lakaṇṭha Caturdhara, who is best remembered for his commentary on the Sanskrit epic, the MahÄ?bhÄ?rata. The intellectual energies distinctive to India's early modern period are captured in NÄ«lakaṇṭha's idiosyncratic works and career in Banaras.
