Distinguished Visiting Professor Karen Uhlenbeck, Past Scholars Elected to Royal Society
Karen Uhlenbeck, current Distinguished Visiting Professor in the School of Mathematics, has been elected to the Royal Society, for her “substantial contribution to the advancement of science.”
Her advancements include her work on geometric partial differential equations, and the areas of the calculus of variations, minimal surfaces, harmonic maps, gauge theory, and integrable systems.
She joins the 80 researchers from around the world elected this year, including, in the School of Mathematics, past Member James Maynard (2017, 2022), who recently won the Fields Medal, and past Visiting Professor Shafi Goldwasser (2021). Additionally, from the School of Natural Sciences, past Distinguished Visiting Professor Subir Sachdev (2021–22) was elected.
The Royal Society is a self-governing fellowship made up of the most eminent scientists, engineers, and technologists from the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth of Nations. Fellows and Foreign Members are elected for life through a peer review process on the basis of excellence in science.
