Matthias Friedrich is an archaeologist interested in the visual and material culture of medieval Europe and the Mediterranean. At IAS, he will work on his current book project, “Medieval Material Culture and the Senses.” It investigates sensory experience in medieval archaeology from the early Middle Ages to the early Renaissance.
