Position Summary
The Assistant Sous-Chef works in tandem with the Sous-Chef to support the Chef in creating an exceptional culinary experience for the Institute Community and its invited guests.
Essential Job Duties
In conjunction with the Chef and Sous-Chef, responsible for the development, preparation and serving of meals at the Institute (90%)
- Oversees catering for Special Events.
- Manages social media for Dining Services, including the daily menu update.
- Oversees Daily catering, ensuring an overall efficient and cost-effective operation.
- Creates, prepares, and serves meals in accordance with specific needs and within established time schedules. May assist with salad preparation, as needed.
- Working with the Chef and Sous-Chef, plans food menus and ensures the adequate inventory of food and supplies for immediate availability, while operating within established budgetary constraints.
- Evaluates both the quality and presentation of food being prepared by staff and provides assistance, as needed.
- Provides ongoing direction and guidance to staff to ensure a clean, pleasant, and sanitized work environment.
- In partnership with the Chef, the Sous-Chef, and the Business Office, handles purchasing of food and beverages.
- Accepts and confirms daily delivers to ensure the accuracy and timely receipt of ordered food and supplies.
All other duties as assigned by the Chef/Director of Dining Services (10%)
Minimum Qualifications
- Culinary Arts degree from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience
- Five years related work experience
- ServSafe certification
- Ability to operate kitchen machinery with attention to detail within safety guidelines
- Excellent organizational, communication and customer service skills
- Capable of recognizing and resolving issues efficiently
- Working knowledge of various computer software programs
Preferred Qualifications
Master of Culinary Arts
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Assist the Chef and Sous-Chef with staff supervision
Working Conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand for long periods of time

The Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, NJ, is seeking Computing Support Interns to join our Information Technology Group. In this paid internship, successful candidates will assist IT staff in providing technical support to a diverse community of scholars. Ideal candidates should have prior experience with desktop support for either Windows or Mac OS. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience with a wide range of software and technologies in a short time.
Essential Job Duties:
- Provide support for desktop systems (Mac/PC), mobile devices, networked printers, wireless connections, VPN clients, email applications, and commercial productivity software.
- Assist in tracking equipment and logging support requests to maintain accurate records.
- Participate in IT projects as opportunities arise.
- Contribute to creating and updating online support documentation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled undergraduate student (freshman, sophomore, or junior).
- Availability to work at least eight hours per week during the academic year, between 8 AM and 5 PM on weekdays.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for either PC or Mac systems.

About the Jonathan M. Nelson Center for Collaborative Research
The Nelson Center for Collaborative Research is designed to facilitate work on projects and topics that are beyond the reach of a single scholar, discipline, or institution. It supports team-based, theme-based, inter-institutional, and interdisciplinary projects led by Institute scholars in collaboration with researchers across and beyond academia. The Nelson Center provides seed funding to develop early-stage research ideas, large-scale funding for multi-year research agendas, and the space, infrastructure, and expertise for collaborative projects with partners across the globe.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director of the Nelson Center, we seek an experienced research development professional who will partner with IAS faculty and staff to provide strategic support in identifying and disseminating funding opportunities and assisting in the development of grant and other funding proposals. In coordination with other team members within the Nelson Center, this role will also help to support an internal program of funding in support of research and other scholarly activities. They will exercise best practice processes, tools, and strategies to support the IAS faculty and serve as an outstanding and trusted colleague in developing the research projects and capacities of the Institute.
Given the IAS’ areas of expertise, the Senior Research Development Officer will support faculty research projects in one or more of the following fields: historical studies, mathematics, natural sciences (including particle and astro- physics, and systems biology), and the social sciences.

Essential Job Duties
- Research funding opportunity curation and dissemination:
Leverages their knowledge of the government and non-profit research funding landscape to develop and communicate up-to-date information on extramural funding in areas related to faculty expertise. Works with the Nelson Center team and other IAS administrators in developing relationships with representatives of funding organizations.
- Proposal development support:
Works directly with faculty, applying knowledge of funding organizations and their priorities to provide grant editing and writing support for external funding.
- Resource creation and maintenance:
Contributes to the creation/maintenance of proposal development resources, including templates and a sample proposal library to aid faculty with various components of federal and non-federal funding applications.
- Internal grant program support:
Supports the management of the Nelson Center’s research funding program. Works with faculty to develop funding proposals, including assisting in budget development and the navigation of Institute administrative requirements.
- Research evaluation:
Embracing a perspective of continuing improvement, assists the Center in developing and carrying out regular evaluations of its activities, outcomes, and institutional impact.
- Support for other strategic research initiatives, as needed.
Qualifications
- Proven record of developing successful, high-quality research proposals;
- Minimum 5 years of experience working in research development or success applying for research funding as an investigator;
- Knowledge and skills required for this position are normally obtained through a master's degree in a research-related field, plus three years of experience in either research development/research administration. A doctoral-level degree in a field represented at the Institute is preferred;
- Extremely strong interpersonal and organizational skills;
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills with the ability to understand, interpret, and summarize complex information for expert and non-expert audiences;
- Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects and activities, and flexibility to manage the reprioritization of projects and to request and respond to guidance as needed;
- Other professional experience related to editing, writing, project management, as well active membership with one or more research administration or research development organizations, is beneficial.

Position Summary
The Institute for Advanced Study seeks a focused and detail-oriented individual to manage the digital arrangement of files and metadata for a project that is digitizing our collection of epigraphic squeezes from the ancient Mediterranean. This project aims to make these resources available to the broader scholarly community through open access. A successful applicant will have experience working with RDF (Resource Description Framework) and TEI (Text Encoding Initiative) XML, and will be comfortable with the computer programming necessary to automate work with humanities files and data. They will also be sufficiently competent in ancient Greek to read the text of the epigraphic squeezes, and in Latin to read major publications such as Inscriptiones Graecae.
Essential Job Duties
Project Management (40%)
- Clean collected metadata to ensure consistency and quality
- Continue 3D-scanning work via photogrammetry and computational development
- Develop metadata schema in accordance with EpiDoc and RDF best practices
- Select and annotate squeeze images for use by Smith College team
- Coordinate with NEH OCR project co-directors on project activities and needs
IT System Design and Implementation (45%)
- Develop appropriate ecosystem for Krateros data and materials in consultation with faculty and staff
- Oversee the ongoing operation of the system
Domain Leadership and Development (10%)
- Build productive relationships between IAS and other entities engaging in similar work related to Digital Humanities
- Curate the scanning project and promote access to and use of the digital squeeze collections which might include providing a greater understanding of the collection to scholars of the ancient world
- Ensure IAS team is aware of and leveraging best practices to carry out the project
- Serve as a resource to other IAS digital humanities efforts
All other duties as assigned by your manager (5%)
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience with RDF and XML metadata formats
- Competency in Latin and ancient Greek
- Familiarity with Python, Javascript, or other Digital Humanities programming language
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with classical epigraphy
- Working knowledge of Preservica, ArchivesSpace, or a similar repository
- Experience with photogrammetry, Agisoft Metashape, or high performance computing
Working Conditions
- Ability to remain in a sitting position for long periods of time
- This position can be largely remote, although the incumbent must live in the tri-state area and be able to travel to campus for meetings as necessary
