IAS employees are able to choose between three healthcare plan options for medical coverage. Each option includes prescription coverage and vision coverage. Dental coverage is also available.
Life Insurance and AD&D coverage are provided at no cost to IAS employees at 1.5X their respective annual salary. Employees are also covered under private short-term and long-term disability plans and have the opportunity to purchase additional voluntary insurance for themselves, their spouse and children.
The Institute contributes 9.5% of an employee’s base compensation up to the Social Security wage base and 15% of base compensation above the wage base to the IRS cap into a 401(a) Plan. Employees may participate in a voluntary tax-deferred annuity plan into a 403(b) Plan.
Employees are eligible to take college-credit courses that either enhance skills in their current position or prepare them for another appointment at IAS. The reimbursement is 100% of the first $1,500 in tuition and fees and 75% of the remaining costs up to a maximum of $5,250 per year. Separately, after five years of benefit eligible service, employees may be eligible for a tuition grant 50% of the cost of tuition and fees up to a maximum of $22,400 per year.
IAS employees are able to earn up to 28 days per fiscal year of paid time off. In addition, employees usually have paid time off on IAS holidays. The Institute's holiday schedule is announced annually and normally includes: New Year’s Day, President’s Day, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, the Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and the days between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Dates Needed

Position Summary
Reporting to the Comptroller, the Accounts Receivable Assistant is responsible for managing the accounts receivable and general ledger functions to ensure charges are posted and reconciled to the appropriate accounts.
Essential Job Duties
Responsible for Managing the Accounts Receivable Function (90%)
- Prepares accounts receivable and general ledger entries for monthly closing in accordance with established accounting policies and procedures. Generates and distributes monthly accounts receivable statements to members of IAS community. Responsible for entering visiting scholars’ forwarding addresses into the accounting system as needed.
- Answers various questions regarding accounts receivable, including monthly account receivable statements. Performs necessary follow-up regarding account receivable inquiries or past due accounts to share, obtain, or clarify account information and ensure timely payment.
- Maintains member housing and short-term housing information for accounting purposes. Maintains ledger for tenant housing and alerts appropriate personnel of delinquencies. Prepares manual statements for Short-term Housing and Special Events.
- Records sales tax activity, and transmit payment to the State of New Jersey monthly.
- Perform check out procedure for departing scholars in accordance with established accounting procedures.
- Prepares bank deposits for all accounts receivable and general ledger receipts, including gift and grant receipts. Inputs account receivable and general ledger cash receipts into the accounting system.
- Maintains the use and security of the petty cash box in accordance with established procedures.
- Processes Visa/MC and foreign collection transactions, following established policies and procedures.
- Assists the switchboard operations, when needed, to contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of daily activities.
All other duties as assigned by the Assistant Comptroller (10%)
Minimum Qualifications
- Prior experience in or knowledge of Accounts Receivable and/or other accounting functions
- Competency with MS Office products, including intermediate to advanced Excel skills

Position Summary
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Chief Financial Officer is a member of the executive leadership team responsible for overseeing all fiscal and fiduciary responsibilities for the Institute and serves as an advisor on a broad range of financial issues to academic and administrative units and the Board of Trustees. The CFO will collaborate and partner with colleagues campus-wide providing resourcing plans for new initiatives, enhancing resource allocation decision-making and identifying opportunities for efficiencies and reallocation. Directs financial functions in areas that include: capital improvement financial planning; annual planning and operational budget development; cash and investment management; risk and endowment management; internal control functions; procurement operations; and auxiliary enterprises. Other responsibilities include insurance and risk management, strategic planning and long-range financial projections, cost-benefit analysis of programs and services, grant development and management, and evaluating the financial viability of new initiatives.
Essential Job Duties
Financial Management and Operations
- Oversees all financial operations, including accounting, financial reporting, and compliance. Ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial records and reports, adhering to regulatory requirements and best practices.
- Analyzes the Institute’s financial results with respect to trends, costs and compliance with budgets. Reviews regular status reports with senior management.
- Serves as the primary liaison with external auditors, regulators, and financial institutions.
- Monitors all necessary accounting policies and systems, including general ledger and financial reporting. Ensures that records are maintained in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Manages cash flow, investments, and financial risk to maintain the financial health of the Institute.
- Partners with the CIO and investment team in coordinating cash planning, audit and reporting, and risk management related to operational due diligence.
- Manages the deployment of the Institute’s endowment and restricted funds in keeping with applicable legal requirements, as well as the policies and investment guidelines established by the Finance and Investment committees.
- Manages non-resident alien taxation reporting including the generation of appropriate tax documents, maintenance of current tax treaty information, and consults with external counsel.
- Serves as the lead for key external financial relationships – banking, bond counsel, investments, property and casualty and workers compensation insurance.
- Partners with CHRO and COO to review employee fringe benefits programs (health, life insurance, retirement).
- Partners with Chief Information Technology Officer on finance related technology (accounting/payroll/HRIS systems, point of sale systems and PCI compliance)
Financial Strategy and Planning
- Provides strategic financial leadership in the development of a multi-year financial and capital plan ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and resource allocation.
- Serves as a key partner with the COO in the strategic planning for, and preparation of, materials for presentations and discussion with the Board of Trustees.
- Builds budgets and business models for new initiatives and opportunities.
- In conjunction with the other department heads, manages and develops the annual operating and capital budgets tracking the long-term strategic plans of the organization. Partners with other department heads to track progression of those long-term plans.
- Prepares and presents accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and analyses, in both quantitative and qualitative terms, in the regular meetings of the Board of Trustees.

- Ensures that grant, cooperative agreements, contract, and subcontract workflows, processes and tools including knowledge management, reporting, and ensuring compliance with all requirements and regulations are completed on a timely basis.
Leadership and Team Management
- Leads, attracts, manages, motivates, develops, and retains a high-performing finance team to optimize performance and support organizational priorities.
- Offers vision, strategy, and success metrics for teams and marshal their talents to achieve new benchmarks of success by providing consistent leadership, coaching, and accountability.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferably in accounting, finance or a relevant field
- Ten years of accounting, finance, or business management experience in a leadership role, with five of those years being in a supervisory capacity
- Collaborative, effective and proven leader, with a track record of leading the fiscal functions of a complex institution
- Excellent record of leadership in policy formation, including planning, assessment, project accounting, grant and general administration
- Demonstrated expertise in the development and implementation of strategic financial plans
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. The candidate will be confident and effective at communicating across all levels of the organization, as well as presenting to the Board, Committees, and diverse external constituencies
- Comfortable and effective in dealing with ambiguity, complexity, competing demands, and change while providing balanced leadership

About the Jonathan M. Nelson Center for Collaborative Research
The Nelson Center for Collaborative Research is designed to facilitate work on projects and topics that are beyond the reach of a single scholar, discipline, or institution. It supports team-based, theme-based, inter-institutional, and interdisciplinary projects led by Institute scholars in collaboration with researchers across and beyond academia. The Nelson Center provides seed funding to develop early-stage research ideas, large-scale funding for multi-year research agendas, and the space, infrastructure, and expertise for collaborative projects with partners across the globe.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director of the Nelson Center, we seek an experienced research development professional who will partner with IAS faculty and staff to provide strategic support in identifying and disseminating funding opportunities and assisting in the development of grant and other funding proposals. In coordination with other team members within the Nelson Center, this role will also help to support an internal program of funding in support of research and other scholarly activities. They will exercise best practice processes, tools, and strategies to support the IAS faculty and serve as an outstanding and trusted colleague in developing the research projects and capacities of the Institute.
Given the IAS’ areas of expertise, the Senior Research Development Officer will support faculty research projects in one or more of the following fields: historical studies, mathematics, natural sciences (including particle and astro- physics, and systems biology), and the social sciences.

Essential Job Duties
- Research funding opportunity curation and dissemination:
Leverages their knowledge of the government and non-profit research funding landscape to develop and communicate up-to-date information on extramural funding in areas related to faculty expertise. Works with the Nelson Center team and other IAS administrators in developing relationships with representatives of funding organizations.
- Proposal development support:
Works directly with faculty, applying knowledge of funding organizations and their priorities to provide grant editing and writing support for external funding.
- Resource creation and maintenance:
Contributes to the creation/maintenance of proposal development resources, including templates and a sample proposal library to aid faculty with various components of federal and non-federal funding applications.
- Internal grant program support:
Supports the management of the Nelson Center’s research funding program. Works with faculty to develop funding proposals, including assisting in budget development and the navigation of Institute administrative requirements.
- Research evaluation:
Embracing a perspective of continuing improvement, assists the Center in developing and carrying out regular evaluations of its activities, outcomes, and institutional impact.
- Support for other strategic research initiatives, as needed.
Qualifications
- Proven record of developing successful, high-quality research proposals;
- Minimum 5 years of experience working in research development or success applying for research funding as an investigator;
- Knowledge and skills required for this position are normally obtained through a master's degree in a research-related field, plus three years of experience in either research development/research administration. A doctoral-level degree in a field represented at the Institute is preferred;
- Extremely strong interpersonal and organizational skills;
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills with the ability to understand, interpret, and summarize complex information for expert and non-expert audiences;
- Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects and activities, and flexibility to manage the reprioritization of projects and to request and respond to guidance as needed;
