James Stone and Scott Tremaine Join Inaugural Class of AAS Fellows

James Stone, Professor in the School of Natural Sciences, and Scott Tremaine, Richard Black Professor in the School, have been named Fellows of the American Astronomical Society (AAS).

This new accolade honors AAS members for extraordinary achievement and service. Fellows are recognized for original research and publication, innovative contributions to astronomical techniques or instrumentation, significant contributions to education and public outreach, and noteworthy service to astronomy and to the society itself.

Stone and Tremaine join an initial group of legacy fellows that also includes Martin Rees, IAS Trustee since 1998, and James Peebles, 2019 Nobel Prize Laureate and Member (1977–78) and Visitor (1990–91, 1998–99) in the School of Natural Sciences.

Many former Members and Visitors in the School have also been named Fellows, including Neta Bahcall, Sarbani Basu, Roger Blandford, J. Richard Bond, David DeVorkin, Bruce Draine, Marc Kamionkowski, Doug Lin, Christopher McKee, Peter Mészáros, Jeremiah Ostriker, Jay Pasachoff, Roger Romani, Sara Seager, Jerry Sellwood, Joseph Silk, Linda Sparke, David Spergel, and Peter J. Teuben.
