11/7: Robbert Dijkgraaf to Give Public Lecture at Princeton Gravity Initiative Opening Celebration

Robbert Dijkgraaf, IAS Director and Leon Levy Professor, will give the public lecture "Einstein's Dream—From the Big Bang to Black Holes" during the opening celebration of the Princeton Gravity Initiative on Thursday, November 7.

Dijkgraaf will speak about the current golden era of gravitational research, the result of Einstein’s vision that by studying the geometry of space and time we can determine the origin, composition, and fate of the universe. Dijkgraaf will discuss recent observational advances, such as the detection of the remnants of the Big Bang, gravitational waves, and the first image of a supermassive black hole, and address deep questions that remain about dark matter, dark energy, and the nature of quantum space-time.

The opening celebration program brings together leading experts at the forefront of research areas connected by gravity, including previous Members in the IAS School of Natural Sciences Malcolm Perry (1978–79) and Andrew Strominger (1982–87).

The lecture, which is open to the public, takes place November 7, 2019, at 8:00 p.m. at Princeton University, McDonnell Hall, Room A02.
