Jim Simons Speaks on Chern–Simons Theory

Jim Simons, IAS Trustee Emeritus and former Member in the School of Mathematics, gives a firsthand account of the work that would become known as Chern–Simons theory.

The result of Simons's collaboration with Shiing-Shen Chern, also a former Member in the School, Chern–Simons theory has gone on to play a significant role in several areas of physics.

Following Simons's talk, former Members Cumrun Vafa and Michael H. Freedman lectured on the applications of Chern–Simons theory in their respective areas.
