April 10: Freeman Dyson at the New York Public Library

Professor Emeritus Freeman Dyson will speak with physicist and author Lisa Randall about his new autobiography Maker of Patterns: An Autobiography Through Letters (Liveright, 2018), at 6:30 p.m. on April 10 at the New York Public Library. The volume of his letters to relatives written between 1940 and 1978 forms a historic account of modern science and its greatest players, including J. Robert Oppenheimer, Richard Feynman, Stephen Hawking, and Hans Bethe. Whether reflecting on the horrors of World War II, the moral dilemmas of nuclear development, the challenges of the space program, or the considerable demands of raising six children, Dyson offers a firsthand account of one of the greatest periods of scientific discovery of our modern age.
