Dutch Ambassador Visits Institute for Advanced Study
The Institute for Advanced Study was honored to welcome His Excellency Henne Schuwer, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Dolf Hogewoning, Consul General of the Netherlands, for a two-day visit to campus.
Ambassador Schuwer and Consul General Hogewoning came to the Institute with a keen interest in talking with scholars from around the world about international issues of urgent concern. Institute activities in which HE Schuwer and CG Hogewoning participated included a seminar on globalization in social science, hosted by the Institute’s School of Social Science, and a talk on the current state of affairs in Syria by a scholar in the School of Historical Studies. Accompanied by Robbert Dijkgraaf, Institute Director and Leon Levy Professor, the Ambassador and Consul General also visited nearby Princeton University for a seminar discussion of current events with scholars and students from both the Institute and the University.
As the guests of honor at a dinner at Dijkgraaf’s home, HE Schuwer and CG Hogewoning enjoyed the company of a diverse group of thought leaders from the academic, cultural, and government sectors for a lively discussion of political developments in Europe and the United States and their mutual relationship. “It was a great pleasure to introduce my dear colleagues from the Netherlands to the Institute and the wider Princeton community,” said Dijkgraaf. “We all enjoyed the opportunity to engage with such experienced diplomats.”
