Robert Langlands is a Mathematical Lighthouse

On the occasion of the 2018 Abel Prize ceremony, which honored this year's laureate Professor Emeritus Robert Langlands, Nils Baas, former Member in the Schools of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, writes in the Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten, "Mathematics is a science in which imagination and vision are essential for progress. One of today's most visionary mathematicians is Robert Langlands. Through the so-called Langlands program, he has had a huge influence on the development of essential areas of modern mathematics."
