Tangled Up in Spacetime
Hundreds of researchers—including School of Natural Sciences Members Eva Silverstein (1999), Vijay Balasubramanian (2007–08), Brian Greene (1992–93), and Hirosi Ooguri (2015, 1988–89), and School of Mathematics Member Dorit Aharonov (1998–99)—are engaged in a collaborative project, "It from Qubit," sponsored by the Simons Foundation. Drawing upon the work of Juan Maldacena, Carl P. Feinberg Professor in the School of Natural Sciences, and former Faculty member Albert Einstein, among others, they say that space and time may spring up from the quantum entanglement of tiny bits of information.
