Volume III of Visible Spirit: The Art of Gianlorenzo Bernini (Pindar Press, 2013) by Irving Lavin, Professor Emeritus in the School of Historical Studies, has been published. This final volume completes a collection of Lavin's papers on Baroque artist Gianlorenzo Bernini (1598–1680). In this work, titled Bernini at St. Peter’s: The Pilgrimage, Lavin defines the significance of a case unique in the history of European art, revealing a coherent strain of thought and design in the furnishing of the greatest church in Christendom under the aegis of a single artist in the service of six popes over a period of nearly six decades.
