Reception to honor Akshay Venkatesh

A reception to honor Akshay Venkatesh, Professor in the School of Mathematics, who was awarded a 2018 Fields Medal by the International Mathematical Union on August 1, 2018. The reception will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 28, in the Common Room of Fuld Hall.The Fields Medal recognizes outstanding mathematical achievement for existing work and for the promise of future achievement. It is awarded every four years to at least two, with a preference for four, mathematicians under the age of 40 at the International Mathematical Union’s International Congress of Mathematicians. The Fields Medal Committee recognized Professor Venkatesh with the honor for his “synthesis of analytic number theory, homogeneous dynamics, topology, and representation theory, which has resolved long-standing problems in areas such as the equidistribution of arithmetic objects.”
