Galaxy Clusters: Beyond Spherical Cows
ABSTRACT: The simple paradigm of a galaxy cluster as isolated, smooth and spherical
leads to many useful results, both about clusters themselves and
when using clusters for cosmological parameters and galaxy evolution. A
high resolution large volume dark matter simulation will be used to
characterize some of the departures (the cosmic web, galaxy substructure)
from these cluster idealities, their relations to each other, and some of
the consequences for cluster galaxies, observed cluster masses, and
beyond.
