Ultrahigh Energy Cosmic Rays: What are they? Where do they come from? What can they teach us?

ABSTRACT: The Pierre Auger Observatory has recorded a large number of Ultrahigh Energy Cosmic Rays, the detector is well understood, and a multitude of different analyses on sources and composition of UHECRs have been performed. The observational data is much cleaner and clearer than ever before, yet definitive answers to the most fundamental questions still elude us -- for extremely interesting reasons! In this talk I will give an overview of the observational situation and describe some very recent developments which suggest that a consistent picture may be emerging.
