Cold and Warm Gas in NGC 2974: Inferring the Shape of its Dark Matter Halo
In this talk I will discuss observations of ionized and neutral gas in the early-type galaxy NGC 2974. We extracted rotation curves both for the warm and cold gas, and applied the asymmetric drift correction to the velocities obtained from the ionized gas. We combined the two rotation curves and constructed mass-models to fit our data. These models of NGC 294 require a dark matter halo, but we also experimented with modified Newtonian dynamics (MOND).
