Yosef Kaplan's research deals with the confessionalization of the Judeoconversos who returned to Judaism in Western Europe in the ear ly modern period, and with the means employed by the central Sephar dic communities in northwestern Europe for the enforcement of confessional conformity and for the super vision of moral conduct and for the supervision of moral conduct among the members of these communities.
