Edward Witten Elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science
Edward Witten, Charles Simonyi Professor in the School of Natural Sciences, has been elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Other elected scholars include Shirley M. Tilghman, IAS Trustee; William Nielsen Brandt, Visitor (2005–06) in the School of Natural Sciences; Frederick Gilman, Member (1974) in the School; Albert J. Libchaber, Visiting Professor (2010–13) in the School; Colin Norman, Visitor (2003) in the School; David M. Bressoud (1979–80) and John Lowengrub (1991–92), Members in the School of Mathematics; and Margaret Candee Jacob, Member (1978–79) in the School of Historical Studies.
The distinction recognizes a wide range of accomplishments, including pioneering research, leadership within a given field, teaching and mentoring, fostering collaborations, and advancing public understanding of science.
