David Lang’s Democratic Composing

The New Yorker examines Artist-in-Residence David Lang’s new piece, “The Public Domain,” a work for “1000 singers,” commissioned for the fiftieth anniversary of Mostly Mozart, which will be performed as a free event on Lincoln Center’s Josie Robertson Plaza, on Aug. 13. “The Public Domain” was created with input from search-engine auto-complete, and will be performed by volunteer singers.
