Gil Renberg Wins 2018 Goodwin Award
Gil Haviv Renberg, Member (2011–12) and Visitor (2013) in the School of Historical Studies, has been awarded a 2018 Charles J. Goodwin Award of Merit.
Given by the Society for Classical Studies, the award recognizes Where Dreams May Come: Incubation Sanctuaries in the Greco-Roman World (Brill, 2017), a book on which Renberg worked while at IAS.
The Society calls Renberg's text "a dream come true for all students of ancient religion and healing: a systematic, exhaustive, beautifully organized, and highly readable exploration of incubation from the Mesopotamian, Anatolian, Greco-Roman, and Egyptian worlds, from the bronze age to late antiquity, masterfully assembling and analyzing a vast amount of data and testimony literary, epigraphical, and archaeological, all anchored to a full bibliography."
