Robbert Dijkgraaf Featured in The Best Writing on Mathematics 2018
"Quantum Questions Inspire New Math," a column for Quanta Magazine by Institute Director and Leon Levy Professor Robbert Dijkgraaf, has been selected for inclusion in The Best Writing on Mathematics 2018, edited by Mircea Pitici (Princeton University Press, 2018).
Pitici writes, "Robbert Dijkgraaf points out that the dynamic of the long interaction between mathematics and physics is reversing; where traditionally mathematics influenced physics, lately physics branches such as string and quantum theories occasion breakthroughs in mathematics, possibly leading toward a new type of mathematics, which he tentatively calls 'quantum mathematics.'"
This column also features in The Prime Number Conspiracy (MIT Press 2018), a recent Quanta anthology focused on mathematical exploration, introducing readers to the means and methods of cutting-edge research through narratives that reveal the power of intuition and unexpected inspiration. Dijkgraaf recently participated in a panel with Quanta writers and editors to discuss the article and Alice and Bob Meet the Wall of Fire (MIT Press 2018). Video is available below, or here.
