The 2015-16 Edward T. Cone Concert Series will conclude on March 4 and 5 with performances by Music from Copland House titled, “Remembrance of Things Past,” at 8 p.m. in Wolfensohn Hall on the Institute campus. These concerts, supported by a grant from the PNC Foundation, will be the final performances organized by Artist-in-Residence Sebastian Currier, with his three-year residency concluding at the end of the 2015–16 academic year.

As the Artist-in-Residence, Currier curated the Edward T. Cone Concert Series, as well as created the Artists Present Series, which featured writers, artists, and film-makers, presenting their work in a low-key and intimate setting. “My time at the Institute as the Artist-in-Residence has been invaluable,” said Currier. “The idyllic setting of the Institute not only allowed me to create new work, but also provided me the opportunity to interact with physicists, historians, and mathematicians who inspired my creative process.”

Music from Copland House ensemble will present a wide-ranging concert of vibrant American works. Bach and Schubert are remembered in the works of two Pulitzer Prize winners – the late Steven Stucky’s Partita-Pastorale after J.S.B. and John Harbison’s November 19, 1828. Former Institute for Advanced Study Artist-in-Residence Derek Bermel evokes a place of universal immortality in his piano trio, Death with Interruptions. Featured performers include clarinetist Derek Bermel, violinists Curtis Macomber and Harumi Rhodes, violist Kathyrn Lockwood, cellist Alexis Pia Gerlach and pianist Michael Boriskin.

The concerts will take place at 8:00 p.m. in Wolfensohn Hall at the Institute. The concert talk, providing discussion of the music in the program and related topics, will follow the Friday performance.

The concerts are free and open to the public, but tickets must be reserved online at www.ias.edu/air/music. Seating is limited. For further information about the Institute’s Artist-in-Residence program, visit www.ias.edu/air.
