Juan Maldacena, Carl P. Feinberg Professor in the School of Natural Sciences, will deliver the Abdus Salam Distinguished Lectures on January 28, 29, and 30, 2019 at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy. The lecture series is an annual presentation of talks by renowned scientists who are driving advancement within their fields. The aim is to showcase important research developments as well as provide a visionary forward view.

The first two lectures, on January 28 and 29, start at 10:30 a.m. EST, while the last, on January 30, starts at 5:00 a.m. EST. Lectures will be livestreamed here.

In his first lecture, “Quantum Mechanics and the Geometry of Spacetime,” Maldacena will discuss black holes and the puzzles they pose in quantum physics. Presented in two parts, “Toy Models for Black Holes”—Maldacena’s second and third lectures—will describe the dynamics of nearly extremal black holes.
