Play Reading at the IAS
Play Reading is a popular activity that brings the IAS community together to read plays. The group meets at 7:00 pm on several evenings this year in the Rubenstein Commons. The readings are not performances, so you need not be ‘experienced.’ Everyone is given a part to read, but if you prefer to just listen to the play instead of reading a role, come and sit back with a glass of wine and some ‘nibbles’ and enjoy the evening. All are warmly welcome!
Fabulation; or The Re-Education of Undine (2005), by Lynn Nottage, takes a satirical look at Undine Barnes Calles, a successful New York businesswoman who specializes in non-profit benefits and finds deep satisfaction in her industrious success until her Argentinian ex-husband, Hervé, disappears with her hard-earned fortune. Pregnant and on the brink of social and financial ruin, Undine is forced to retreat to her childhood home in Brooklyn’s Walt Whitman projects, where she must face the challenges of a life she had long left behind.
