Play Reading at the IAS

Play Reading is a popular activity that brings the IAS community together to read plays. The group meets at 7:00 pm on several evenings this year in the Fuld Hall Common Room. The readings are not performances, so you need not be experienced. Everyone is given a part to read, but if you prefer to just listen to the play instead of reading a role, come and sit back with a glass of wine and some nibbles and enjoy the evening. All are warmly welcome!
We will be reading The Madness of King George III by Alan Bennett (1991). When a rare medical condition little understood in 1788 makes King George III act in an increasingly deranged manner, his authority and status are eroded. With rumors circulating that George has even addressed an oak tree as the King of Prussia, the Prince of Wales is determined to become Regent. While the king’s hapless doctors attempt the ineffectual cures of the day, Queen Charlotte and Prime Minister William Pitt the Younger try to prevent his political enemies, led by the Prince of Wales, from usurping the throne.
