Tidal Squeezing of Black Holes
Abstract: Tidal deformation is a significant phenomenon observed in various astronomical scenarios, including black holes, and are a key gravitational-wave observable encoding information about the object's interior. Relying on hidden symmetries, compelling progress has been achieved to explain that Kerr black holes suffer no tidal distortion under a static gravitational external field. How is tidal squeezing of black holes characterized in more general dynamical scenarios? An elementary presentation of dynamical tidal deformations of Kerr black holes will be given.
