IAS Physics Group Meeting

On the Free-String Spectrum of AdS3/CFT2

The Institute for Advanced Study requires that all adult visitors, collaborators, conference and on-campus seminar attendees and outside vendors coming to the Institute are required to have completed a COVID-19 vaccination and booster in order to enter the IAS campus. Individuals must be prepared to present proof of vaccination if asked and are expected to follow the Institute's Covid-19 Procedures. Masks are optional while indoors.

Abstract: I will discuss the spectrum of free strings on AdS3xS3xT4 when the background is supported by a mixture of Ramond-Ramond (RR) and Neveu-Schwarz-Neveu-Schwarz (NSNS) fluxes. The case where no RR fluxes are present can be understood by studying worldsheet CFT. If however the background is supported by RR fluxes (or by a combination of RR and NSNS fluxes) it seems most advantageous to use integrability on the worldsheet. I will sketch the integrability approach and the TBA equations describing the exact spectrum (fo arbitraty tension) in presence of RR flux only, and discuss their weak-tension expansion. I will then compare them with a similar expansion around the symmetric-product orbifold CFT which arises in the "tensionless" limit of the NSNS case.

This talk is based on recent work and on work in progress with Dennis le Plat and Sergey Frolov.
