Exact Resummation of Universal Tails in Gravitational Waveforms
Abstract: The detection of gravitational waves from inspiraling binary black holes by the LIGO/Virgo/KAGRA experiment has brought about the era of precision strong-gravity science. In this talk, I will discuss recent progress in uncovering the hidden structures in the waveforms using modern scattering amplitude techniques, effective field theory and black hole perturbation theory. I will particularly focus on the new conceptual understanding of the "renormalized" angular momentum in black hole perturbation theory as anomalous dimensions of multipole moments in general relativity, which allows us to provide a better resummation formula for the actual waveforms from inspiraling binaries.
