IAS Amplitudes Group Meeting

Continuous-Spin Deformation of Massless Scattering Amplitudes

Abstract: Continuous Spin Particles (CSPs) arise naturally from Wigner's classification of the unitary representations of the Poincare group. Conversely, defining an interacting (quantum field) theory for these particles is notoriously difficult. In my talk, I will move away from trying to find a Lagrangian/field-theoretic description for CSPs. Rather, I will bootstrap perturbative S-matrix elements describing the scattering and the exchange of CSPs from generic constraints dictated by Poincare invariance, little-group covariance, analyticity and unitarity. I will show explicit examples, highlighting the essential features of CSP scattering amplitudes, open problems and possible physical relevance.
