IAS Amplitudes Group Meeting

Scattering Theory and Infrared Divergences

Abstract: How are infrared divergences related to the Shapiro time delay in GR? In this pedagogical lecture aimed at graduate students, we will study the physics of infrared divergences and their imprint on scattering amplitudes. We will mostly work in non-relativistic quantum mechanics, which provides a simplified setting for understanding the physics. Towards the end we will discuss additional features and complications that arise in quantum field theory.
