Frequently Asked Questions about the 2025 Research Program

No. Research Program participants may apply for one week, two weeks, or all three weeks of PCMI. Any RP participant who receives support from PCMI for lodging/meals must attend for at least one full week.  Many senior researchers choose to come for longer periods.  Research participants may select their week/s (depending on your funding level) when completing the Registration Form emailed in March.  2025 selections are:

Week 1 – July 6-12

Week 2 – July 13-19

Week 3 – July 20-26

If you are traveling with family/friends you may pay an additional fee for a larger lodging unit, depending on availability.

Applicants to the Research Program should already have a PhD or be expecting to receive one by the summer of 2025. This program is not for researchers or postdoctoral scholars with limited expertise in the research topic. Recent PhDs (less than one year after receipt of PhD) may consider applying to the Graduate Summer School at PCMI instead of the Research Program (see the description and prerequisites for Graduate Summer School), but should be aware that GSS participants are required to attend all three weeks of PCMI, whereas Research Program participants may apply to attend one week, two weeks, or all three weeks of PCMI.

Some mobility is expected between the Research Program and the Graduate Summer School, but postdoctoral scholars who are more than one year after receipt of their PhD should apply to the Research Program, not to the Graduate Summer School.
