IAS High Energy Theory Seminar
Semi-Classical Physics at Large Quantum Numbers
Abstract: We will discuss excitations with large spin and/or large particle number. For conformal theories this corresponds to investigating particular trajectories of heavy operators.
We find trajectories with large approximate degeneracy and show that they can be understood as coherent rotating fluids with approximate infinite-dimensional symmetries. The fluid admits chiral excitations which could be soon observed in nonrelativistic versions of this problem. We discuss the details of the nonrelativistic setup as well and present concrete predictions for near-future experiments.
