About the Archives

The Electronic Computer Project, led by John von Neumann, was based at the Institute for Advanced Study from 1945 to 1960. The Institute for Advanced Study (Princeton, N.J.). Electronic Computer Project records consist of correspondence, memos, reports, patents, contracts, operational guides, blueprints, punch cards, wiring drawings, diagrams, and logbooks.

The Louise Morse scrapbooks contain photographs of the Institute for Advanced Study community of scholars from approximately 1936 to 1988. The photographs feature Louise Morse alongside Marston Morse, Faculty of the Institute School of Mathematics, among Institute Faculty, Members, and Visitors at social gatherings and events. 

The John N. Bahcall papers span the entirety of Bahcall’s 35-year career at IAS. Consisting of 46 linear feet of personal and professional correspondence, research files, manuscript notebooks, and more, the papers include behind the scenes documentation of Bahcall’s groundbreaking work on the solar neutrino problem and his pivotal role in the development of the Hubble Space Telescope.

The Otto Neugebauer papers consist of notes, correspondence, and research related to the work of former Institute for Advanced Study Faculty Otto Neugebauer from 1917-1990. Over the course of Neugebauer's long association with the Institute, he held positions affiliated with three separate Schools (School of Mathematics, School of Historical Studies, and School of Natural Science).  Neugebauer was a prolific writer, and published on a range of topics, including Babylonian mathematics, mediaeval astronomy, and chronology. His collection documents Neugebauer's prolific career across the entire disciplinary range of his scholarship.
