A Few Applications of String Field Theory

Abstract: String field theory is usually considered to be a difficult and complicated object to understand and study. However, due to its field-theoretic nature, it provides a useful framework to address physical questions which are in particular natural from field theory perspective. Moreover, it has recently been emphasized that string field theory is the appropriate framework for the usual textbook string perturbation theory. In this talk, after a very mild introduction to the framework of string field theory, I will discuss three of its recent applications illustrating the above aspects: open-closed duality, strings in Ramond-Ramond flux background, and D-instanton in type IIB superstring theory.
