Gauge theory and low-dimensional topology
Gauge theory studies partial differential equations with a large group of local symmetries, and it is the geometric language to formulate many fundamental physical phenomena. Starting in the 1980s, mathematicians began to unravel surprising connections between gauge theory and low-dimensional topology, and new developments continue to emerge. In this talk, we will discuss some applications of gauge theory to the study of three and four-dimensional manifolds and to knot theory.
