Physics Group Meeting

Soft Gravitons

We would like to discuss about soft gravitons. On the one hand, they enter in the soft theorems of gravity scattering which exhibit universal structures useful in the S-matrix program (e.g., 1404.4091, 1406.6987). On the other hand, they appear in the recent efforts of understanding the symmetries of asymptotically flat spacetime, namely, BMS (e.g., 1312.2229). I will briefly review both these aspects. We can try to understand the connection between them, following Strominger et al (1401.7026, 1406.3312), and see what we can gain on either side from the other. I will draw several questions regarding this connection. Furthermore, it would be interesting to discuss about the role the analogous "soft gravitons" play in the very recent discussions about the black hole hair (e.g., 1601.00921, 1601.03725).
